--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need help! I recently gave a gun holster away in a gun forum "Karma". I picked the guys name out of a hat, and emailed him to inform him he won. I told him to e-mail his address to me, and I would send it out. Well he sent me an e-mail, but when I try to open it, my system just seems to go into nuetral. It is trying to open it, but nothing happens, and the only way I can get out of the screen is to ctrl/alt/del. I was able to navigate all the other e-mails in my inbox.......untill I deleted the message above his. Now, everytime I go into my inbox, it is trying to open that email, and everything is basicly frozen. What do I do? How do I get rid of that e-mail from my in box?

HELPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(hurry, I am getting this huge urge to launch this technicle piece of ......)

I could not find where in that link to scan for virus, so I ran Nortan antivirus. It showed a virus, JS Start page. Js is the guy who sent the e-mail, now how do I get it out of my inbox? If I go back in, I am just going to open the virus again? Did he know he sent me this virus, or coul;d it have been uninetional?

Re: Computer HELP!!!!!!!

I didn't know that you could get infected by opening an email, as long as you did not open any attachments accompanying it. However you should have your email program set so that it does not automatically open them in the 'view pane'.

Maybe someone can help you find it in windows explore, then delete it from there. I'm not sure what folder you would look in.

Re: Computer HELP!!!!!!!

Boomyal, That is a common misconception.

Due to things like activex, you can get a virus just by having the email opened in the preview window.

To remove the virus, try turning off the preview window in Outlook (to to tools->options and look though there till you find where to turn it off)
Then find the email and delete it.

A good free online virus scanner is:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

just go there in your web browser and follow the prompts.

Lastly, I refuse to use either Internet explorer or Outlook/Outlook express. The reason is pretty simple, because they are the 2 most used internet applications, they are targetted by every virus writer on the planet.

My suggestion to those of you sick of Virus's is to change from Outlook to Thunderbird.
http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

It's totally free, open source, looks and works like Outlook, but has spam filtering and other cool features and was written by programmers all over the world with security in mind.

I also suggest you swap to the browser made by the same people.
http://spreadfirefox.com/community/?q=affiliates&id=1042&t=67

IT has a popup blocker, is VERY secure, and tabbed browsing and other such cool things. best of all, none of the virus/spyware exploits will work with it.

While we are on the subject of Virus's, here is a free open source Anti-virus program.
http://www.clamwin.com/

I've found it to catch some virus's that others miss. and it doesn't hurt to run more then one for extra security.

I'm a network Admin with a security background, so I do this stuff for a job.

Hope that helps.

Rgds

Frank
htmlfixit.com
