Can anyone tell me about what year that motors had connections to hook up to computers to tell the technicians what the problem is or how many hours are on the motor?
The DI's started in 1997 and there on up until they made the E-Tec's and the DI's were gone. If you haven't got a computer you really can't trouble shoot them.
Slight coorection: Ficht and E-Tec are all DI (direct injected) motors. Both had computers, but not all motors made by OMC, and later BRP were DI motors.
When I say DI I'm referring to the FICHT mtrs. And yes BRP had some left over FICHTS from OMC that they did some mods to just to get rid of them. Yes they are still all direct injection but the E-Tec is a lot better mtr than the FICHT. I have some service manuals from 2004 where the bigger mtrs were refered to as DI and the smaller ones were refered to as E-TEC and this is from BRP.
The reason I asked was I am looking at used boats and some of the ads say Took it to dealer and it shows X numbers of hours on the motor. This is on all brands. Just wondering how they can check that.
On most of the bigger newer mtrs you need a lap top to work on them. This gives you fault codes , hrs and ect. This is on all brands as you said. If it is still a carb mtr, no computer hook up.
