Hi, I have been researching how to remove my omc concealed side mount control box for about a week now. From what I have read, it seems like all you have to do to remove the handle is put it in reverse and there should be a screw or allen screw exposed on the inside near the cables, remove that and it pulls right off. Seems simple, right? I have looked and searched for hours and cannot find this screw. Please someone help. I removed the push neutral button but that did not help. For some reason I cannot post any pics but if you guys can respond with pics that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

Re: Concealed side mount really tricky.

I just happened to repair mine about a month ago. It did take me some time the first time but I got it. Here is how.

You are correct that you must put it in reverse. The lever is held on with a set screw that can only be accessed when in reverse. With the level in neutral, the set screw is on the very bottom. Therefore, when you move the level to reverse, the screw will be toward the front. You will have to look at the front to see when the screw comes into view. The screw is allen, not sure the size. Once screw is out, level pulls toward you. It can get kind of stuck on throttle shaft. Also note, if yours is like mine, there can be a trim/tilt switch in the level so be careful that there is a wire going up through the lever. Hope this helps.
