I have a 1998 350 MAG mated to a Bravo 3 drive. I notice this season that I have been getting some water into the bilge area. The water only enters when the boat is operating at higher rpms and it?s not a whole lot; about a quart an hour (still trying to find source of water leak).
Anyway, while trying to determine the cause of the water leak I?ve discovered that I have two oil leaks on the engine. One certainly appears to be coming from the front crankshaft seal, while the other is in the vicinity of the rear main seal. The leaks are not bad yet and have only lost about half a quart of oil in the last 25 hours of operation
The engine has 217 hours and I?m the second owner (previous owner kept all maintenance records). Looking at the output from the MEFI3, the engine has run about 100 hours between 0 ? 1000 rpm and about 23 hours between 4000 ? 5000 rpm, with the remaining hours pretty much even in the remaining rpm ranges.
What would cause both seals to fail with only 217 hours? I?m concerned that with the relatively low hours and the good maintenance history on the boat that there may be some other issue(s). (I check the alignment last season and again this season and it is good.)
