Condensation in Cooler (Igloo) Seat

I continue to get considerable condensation in my console cooler seat. It sits under the console cover when the boat is in the slip. I prop open the top and I've opened the drain plug to create some air flow but it still accumulates water...enought to have to wipe up. Should I drill some holes in the lower sides to create more air flow? I don't use it for a cooler but for storage of extra lines, flares, etc. Thanks.

Re: Condensation in Cooler (Igloo) Seat

I'm guessing your in the north where the temperatures swing in both directions. Once the temps stabilize, I would think the condensation problem would end.

The problem is caused by the outside temps changing and the insulation of the cooler maintains its temp causing a difference between the inside of the cooler and outside. Sorta like ice water in a glass on a hot day condenses on the outside of the glass. Leaving the drain hole open will not help much. Propping the lid open about an inch should do the trick.

I just re-read your post about having the lid open. Have you tried it with it completely closed up?

BTW, Igloo coolers is the best in my book for keeping things cold.

I keep it propped open but only about a half inch. I'll try for a larger opening. I amy also need to get more airflow under the console cover. Thanks.
