I was wondering when I should change the condenser and what would happen if it goes bad?My motor is AQ125A.It sits outside the distributer cap.Looks as if all I need is a screwdriver to replace. Is it really that easy to change? thanks.

Yep, it's that easy to change.

Should be changed when points are changed as part of a normal tuneup.

Re: Condenser question

Keep the old one as a spare. I have had new condensers fail shortly after instalation. At least you know the old one is good.

Re: Condenser question

the true art is knowing when the new one is bad, or the old one for that matter.

Re: Condenser question

One hint is that a failing of leaky condenser usually runs hotter. There may be some indications that the condenser has been hot if you suspect it is bad. It is such a low cost part that it is better just to replace it if you suspect it is bad. When it fails the symptoms usually is no spark. Occasionally you have low energy or poor spark resulting in missing, especially at higher rpm. This is not a common from a bad condenser as it is just to have no spark.
