Hello,

I have an 88’ Bayliner Trophy with a 5.0 GM, OMC out drive. I want to order a bellows kit. I see some are for and for not a cone clutch.... how do I know which I have?

The 88 is NOT a cone clutch drive.
The cone came out later and was used
in the big block applications.
Then Volvo got involved and they started
using it in all the drives

There were 2 different cone clutch drives branded OMC but a 1988 will be the standard Cobra dog clutch. If you have it use your model number to order parts.
cone clutch drives:
All OMC Cone Clutch (Daddy King) has impeller in upper gear housing like standard Cobra, used with big block engines
Joint Venture with Volvo OMC Cobra, has impeller on engine, used from 94-98
I believe the Joint Venture (and the Volvo SX) drives use the same bellows as the standard Cobra

TRANSOM MOUNT - 1988 OMC Stern Drive 5 504APRGDP | Crowley Marine
this is the OE part list and part #. With these the folds are asymmetric the side with more folds goes down, to flex more when the drive is tilted. Also the side that goes on the gimble housing flange has a rib that fits in a groove that goes around the gimble housing flange. The screw part of the clamp should be between the 1:00 and 2:00 position. The pivot housing side, just pops into the pivot housing, no clamp there.
