Hi, i have enquired about this on someone elses thread & am still confused about the answer,so i've decided to start a new thread about this.I have inherited a 1970 9.5 hp.evinrude sportwin model #9022a .I've been told that this model doesn't have a pee hole like later models do.But there is a corrigated hose attached to the back of the engine block which comes out the back of the engine casing just under the cowel. What should i be seeing coming out of this hole.Should it be 1.A steady stream of water. 2.A spluttering of mist & water or 3.just a misty spray? The reason for my confusion is i've had 3 different answers to my question, they are the 3 just mentioned.Could someone put me straight as to what i should be looking for please.

Water should come out of that hole with quite a force.... a strong flow.

If running th engine in a barrel, make sure that the water level is a couple inches above where the lower unit bolts up.

See, that's where the confusion comes in. We all describe it in our own words. Yes. it is a pretty good flow, but not like a garden hose. In my words, exhaust comes out with the water, turning it into a healthy broken-up "spray"....much more than a "mist". At higher speeds, less exhaust comes out, so the water sort of runs out.

Re: Confused about water stream.

I'd like to thank you both for your replies.Yes we all do describe in our own words. What i described as #2.in my original post ( a spluttering of mist & water) is better described by FR. as a "healthy broken-up spray" & that's what i'm getting when testing in a barrel after replacing the impeller & thermostat.I wasn't game to take it out on the lake until i got some advice because on my 1985 8hp.Mercury the water pisses out like a garden hose & i thought the Evinrude should be the same, but if a "healthy broken up spray" is the norm. i'm happy. Thanks again...
