Hi guys/gals I have a 1995 Johnson outboard model# J15REOD the plugs that were in ther when I first bought this motor were QL77JC4 I'm confused when I look at the spark plug chart, I know there is a chart here but my year shows up as kerosene and it uses a surface plug , would somebody tell me what plugs I need, i'm thinking the ones I have are wrong

Where do you get that kerosene story? It is just a plain ol' rope start 15hp gas/oil mix two-stroke. Anyhow, the original plug was Champion QL82C, but QL77JC4 is an optional. Whichever works best for you.

thanks for your response, I was just looking at the spark plug /year chart and noticed one of the motors said 15hp kerosene, but looking at the chart now I see my year with the QL82C, I noticed you said the QL77JC4 were optional does this mean they both work the same? I noticed when my motor is hot it stalls sometimes and I have to choke it to start I was thinking the wrong plugs might be a factor

Re: Confused about which are the right plugs

Actually, the QL77JC4 plugs were developed by a cooperation between OMC and Champion to fix some running problems in some other models. I prefer them in most motors, but don't really have enough experience with the 15hp to pass judgement there. I sort of doubt the situation you describe has anything to do with the plugs.
