confused about year of 200 hp Suzuki

Just bought an 89 KingFisher bass boat with a 200 hp Suzuki. My confusion comes from the tag on the side of the motor. It reads 2001 then has this number embosed 908135. So I dont know if the tag was replaced for some reason in 2001. I am in the process of getting this motor titled in the state of Texas. And the guy that had it before me never got it titled. He sold it to me as an 89 motor but did not have any official documentation to go with it.

Hi,<br /><br />The correct way to determine Year on a Suzuki is the plate:<br /><br />

<br /><br />(On older Suzuki, 1979 and before, it is Year letter that tell what Year it is, like A=1975, B=1976 ... F=1979)<br /><br />If You do not have the plate then... well someone must have removed it (for some reason).

The plate is on there, that is where I got my numbers from. The # 2001 is what is shown above as 0801. So it would seem perhaps that mine reading 2001 could be completely coincidental with a year.<br /><br />Thanks for the info!
