1999 4 cyl bayliner factory drive, M/C with alpha one foot I think
1. manual says to use
merc high performance gear oil part number 92 816026A2 (can get from the dealer I guess)

2. son in law gave me a bottle of merc high performance (and it has a + sign on it ) part number 92 802854A1

3. whats in the boat reservoir is a dull green

whats in the son in laws bottle is not too far off in color but is a little more blue. can I use the son in laws stuff or is it for some other sterndrive? why does M/C have oil so close in name? high perf gear oil and high perf plus?

which to use?

Thanks

The 92 802854A1 is the newest version of Hi Performance gear lube, and you can no longer order the old number (92 816026A2) Your dealer may have it if it's old stock, but new stuff will be the newer number.

Just great ! ! More new numbers to keep track of .#14957 oil filter was great. Now it's changed 6 or seven times over the years.OKAY over 22 years, but why ?

I can see if a mechanical part is improved,or fits a newer application,as well as not an older one change the number.I know it is sometimes done to "fool" Sierra and other afterer marketers, but oils just changed part numbers again.Give me a break ! Wasn't the last number change earlier this spring ?

Ditto what Bondo said. Don't get caught up trying to sort out all of the PN's, just make sure it "High Performance" and not the "Premium" gear lube.

Is this an oil question with so little replies? We starting to agree on stuff like this... 8)

merc parts man said the "hi perf plus" is the new stuff and is backwards compatible with the "high performance" stuff
