Confused on Wellcraft models

I'm the happy new owner of a 92 Wellcraft Excel SX20, but I'm not having luck finding anything out about the model. It's not listed here in the forums under the manufacturer name, but both boat markings and title indicate that Excel SX20 is the correct designation.

Can anyone clarify this for me?
Also, I'd like to pick up an owner's manual for this boat. Where is the best source?

Thanks in advance
Ken

You most likely won't find an owners manual. Few manufacturers even produced them and the ones that did mainly just put generic safety info and what not in them. However, a factory service manual for your particular engine/drive is invaluable and well worth seeking out. Excels were Welcrafts value line. Not bad boats but nothing to write home about.

Thanks for the reply. I did manage to find an owner's manual from the Wellcraft site, just for Excel, not individual models.

However, the 20SX model is not listed there either. Is Excel an actual model, or a brand name used to differentiate from Wellcraft's primary line (ie: Chevy/GMC, Ford/Mercury, etc)?

I believe Excel is a "line" of boats from Welcraft.

It would appear you are correct. In snooping further around the Wellcraft site, they have the Excel line listed beginning in 1993. Previous owner had it listed as a 1992 and I don't remember right now what the title said, but it looks like Excels were not available prior to 93.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Confused on Wellcraft models

Wellcraft gets a little funky with model years around the break points. I've seen it quite often that newer models carry back a year older than they are supposed to.

Even my Eclipse is an example of this. It's a 1991 model year but it has the 7.4l/Bravo 1 setup that wasn't available until 1992.

There is also someone that posted in the 'Boat Topics and Questions' forum yesterday, asking about a 1993 Eclipse 236SC when that model wasn't supposed to be available until 1994.

I don't know if other manufactures are like this too, or if it's just Wellcraft.
