Ok, I am confused. Can someone tell me what the difference in a 1987 90hp Crossflow vs a 115hp Crossflow of the same year. I have been doing some research and found that mechanically they are the same engine. IE entire engine with electronics. The only difference I have found is the Power Packs. The 90 has a rev limiter and the 115 doesn't. Can that make a big difference? Personally I can not see the power packs giving it an extra 25 hp. Now, my question. How do I get my 1987 90hp to produce the same power as the 115? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Or atleast fill me in on what the difference is!

Distress

Re: Confused

I been confusssed all my natural life signal.

The big difference is in the carburation. I'd have to look at the parts breakdown but maybe in the reeds to.

Bigger carb...throat and jets....more horses for the same block and bore.....basically.

Re: Confused

Thanks OBJ, The reeds I thought mayby also, but not. they are the same reeds. The Carbs, now that is a different story. I do know the rebuild kits are the same for both engines, but that does not mean that the bore is the same, or the jets. Same as you, I have not been able to look at a Breakdown of the carbs to see the difference. Anyway, the reason I was wanting to know this, I jsut purchased a new Prop. I went from a 17 to a 19. The 17 produced 5400 rpm @ 47 mph and the 19 produced 4600rpm @41 mph. Just wanting to find a way to get enough power to push the 19.

Distress

Do you know where the rev limiter is set in the 115? Do they both time the same?

c/6
Hooty

Re: Confused

Hooty, the 115 has no rev limiter installed. and the timing is the same for both engines. Rev limiting on the 90 is controled by the Power Packs. Right now, I am trying to locate some specs on the carbs for both engines.

Distress

Re: Confused

My mistake. I meant the limiter in the 90. I'd bet you find that the bore in the 115 is 1/16" larger then the 90. What rpm are the two horsepower rated?

c/6
Hooty

Re: Confused

As far as I remember the 115 has Bubble back exhaust manifold and the 90 flatback, giving lower exhaust tuning. carbs and reeds are different too, 115 rated at 5200 - 5500, 90 rated at 4500 - 5000.
