Confusing Fuses

My old boat had a fuse board with the long, cylinder-like fuses. My new boat has little white buttons that say to push them in to reset the fuse. I think one of the fuses may be blown, but I can't pull the button out. I assumed that the "button" was the end of the fuse, but now I'm not so sure. I looked behind the dash, and it appears the "button" is part of a small, black box that the +/- wires attach to. Is this small black box the fuse and if so, I would imagine that to change a fuse, I would have to replace the entire black box?

Re: Confusing Fuses

Those new ones are circut breakers like the ones in your house

They pop out when they blow and you push to reset them

It could still be bad you would need to use a DVM to see if there is power going in and out of the breaker

Those are circuit breakers, not fuses. The button Pops out about a 1/4" with the breaker "blows" then you just push the button back in to reset it.
Use a meter or test light to test for output from the breaker. They can fail without the button popping out.

So are there fuses anywhere in the relay or does the breaker take the place of a fuse?

The breaker IS the "fuse"...it pops, ya got an overload... if it continues to pop...ya got a problem. If things seem OK, get a new breaker, same Amp..
