2014 Hewescraft 180 (18 ft) Sportmans with 2018 115 hp Yamaha & 2014 9.9hp Yamaha Kicker

I dinged up the prop on the Kicker. the prop is stamped 11 3/4 X 7 R
Looking around on line for a new one. Seems this prop isn't too common and has a very low pitch.
As I understand it: low pitch number = high RPM low speed but don't see how all this equates to a motor only used for trolling (3-6 MPH). Seems you would want low RPMS with more thrust

or am I just lost in the numbers?

can some one school me on this and point me in the right direction for a new prop.
Every thing online I'm finding is for the main motor not the kicker (they are asked to do different jobs).

Need to get back on the water ASAP!!!!

thanks for any/all advice/thoughts/ideas/etc

Get the same prop. Low pitch works well with heavy loads because it lets the engine rev up higher into its RPM range. That means the motor does not work as hard to move the boat a good thing. A higher pitch prop will make the engine work harder by lowering the rpms (not good) and could cause damage to the motor. A lower pitch prop is not necessarily slower either because it spins faster. You can split the difference and get a high thrust prop lower pitch bigger blades.

It's pretty simple. You want a pitch that will allow the engine to get in it's recommended max rpm range at wot on the boat it's on. Once you have that, then run it at whatever speed you want. For what you use it for, you probably want the lowest pitch you can find,

Thanks for you help. Ordered it today.

Just for the record, if having an induction tach installed report which was the max wot rpm achieved as usually loaded on flat calm water cond. Factory delivered props with any motor are medium pitched and won't rev to near middle or max wot revs factory stated with heavier passengers, heavier boats or a combo of both boating scenarios. At least 1 less pitch from current one would have performed much better pushing a boat as a kicker.

That's why it's a must tach any prop delivered with motor to know if works properly to power any boat between middle to max wot rpm range, will know if buying a exact same pitch or going to a less one if factory delivered prop it's not doing its homework right. Revving any motor at min wot range will be lugging the motor badly which is nada bueno...

Here is what people don't understand about kickers. They are so underpowered on the boat they are on that it is almost impossible to get into there RPM range. You would need 2" pitch props for some of theses motors. So the factory sets those up as kickers and they are good enough. There is a limit to what you an do to a kicker motor. They are only spare motors not meant to run as primaries.

Without a tach reading won't know if sufficiently good or not, will it power the boat, yes will do but at which max wot revs ? Any portable motor kicker or not will power a heavy combo well to its full wot rpm range if propped right. Won't plane nothing that floats, but will achieve a much better displacement speed if happens the kicker's delivered prop is not doing its homework right. Each boat/motor/prop is a unique installation.

Since 95% of the kickers are used for trolling or backtrolling purposes. you want to use the 7P as you can troll slower with a low pitch prop. No need for tach reading as never used over 1/3 throttle.
