I have a 25 hp merc that has steering from the console and a 5 hp merc that uses a handle to steer.

I use the 5 hp to run on lakes with a 10hp lmit.

It would be great if I could connect these two in such a way that I could steer the 5 hp from the console when I troll. Then disconnect almost immediately.

I am thinking of just drilling holes in the cowl and screw them onto some piece of metal strapping but the heights of the motors are different and this may not work.

jjbuoni, There is such a device that straps the kicker to the main OB. It allows the kicker to be tilted up when not in use. Check out BoatUS or some other discount marine place.

Now that is a good idea! So you rigged from the steering arm (of the 130) to the tiller arm, right.

Right, I installed a small bolt under the steering arm of my kicker and bent rod to accommodate the height of each motor, riveted a washer at each end of rod to bolt to each motor. Very cheap set up , under $3.00.

Simler set up at dealer is $300.00 hear. thanks for the interest in my invention.

There's several products which connect the kicker to the main engine for steering. I have an "E Z Steer" brand and I am extremely happy with the way it works. I have a large outboard and a small kicker. Cabelas sells a different brand and design item. Haven't used that one. There are others. Look at them and decide which will suit your needs. My EZ steer claims to be able to adapt to nearly any set up, incuding I/O to kicker - and I believe it based on my experience. If you have questions, give me a holler. (No, I"m not associated with EZ Steer, just happy with their product and customer service).
