I bought a mariner 30a sn 689l414687 electric start but the battery cables were missing and not sure where to connect the cables to engine.there is a thick cable from the starter motor to a black relay or solenoid with a spare post next to it ,would that take the positive lead ? and further back on the block there is a post with several black wires which are grounded there , and there is sufficient room for another eyelet under that nut for negative cable .Also under the insulation cap from the starter motor cable it doesnt look like anything has been removed from there or undone.also there is a red wire with a black plastic fuse holder I think and bullet connector which I assume is the positive feed for the wiring harness.Any help appreciated cheers.

Re: connecting battery cables to mariner 30a

Sounds like you got her figured out. Sometimes the 12v large red cable from the battery ties directly to the solenoid (you mentioned) input post and additional wire(s) emanate from there through a fuse which you also found for doing other electrical chores within the engine/remote control if so equipped. Other times there may be a dedicated terminal post for 12v distribution and a jumper from there to the input terminal of the solenoid of large diameter wire.

The return wire usually is terminated on the engine block somewhere but has to be a high current connection the same size, or close to) the size of the red wire connection.
