Installed a Lowrance Fish finder this past weekend. The power wires coming from the lowrance harness contains three wires. Red, White and black. What is the white wire? Is that the ground? If so can that be tied in with the black and posted to the neg terminal of the battery?

Thanks,
Andy

Whats the model number, cause im sure the installation instructions say what to do with the wire. I doubt that you splice it with the black, otherwise one would think they would do that within the unit itself.

Without a model number to go by, I would hazard a guess and say this thing has a memory of sorts and the third wire is a "always hot" line to keep from losing stored information when the unit is turned off. If that's the case, then that wire would connect to a +12 volt spot that is always on (like the POS terminal of the battery) or the "B" terminal on the ignition switch. But we don't know this is true since we have no idea which of the gazillion Lowrance units we are discussing.

Its been a while since I hooked mine up but I believe the white wire is really a cable that has other wire in it. If this is the case then these wire would be used to hook it up to your VHF radio for your DSC calling. NEMA 183.

I could buy that, mines a seperate connection for that, but I could see that. Will have to wait for the model number to be posted to know for sure.

Re: Connecting Fish Finder to Battery

Here is what the manual for my LMS 334 says about the white wire.

The power cable has two wires, red and black. Red is the positive lead,
black is negative or ground. (There is also a white wire to power an optional
external speaker for some units.) Make sure to attach the in-line
fuse holder to the red lead as close to the power source as possible.

Sorry for the earlier misleading information.

Turbinedoctor is the winner. The white is for a speaker that is not used on the x-135.Lowrance packages the same harness for many different models.

So I can just snip it off then?
