connecting gas gauge

put in a new sending unit and want to make sure connecting right.

which post gets the positive connecting, the send or ign? the other is ground.

also, how do i get lights working on gauges, all have bulbs.

Anchor..thanks for response, that was the ticket. But, i believe i have all properly connected and still no reading.

i believe its the gauge itself. previous owner said never worked or others also, tack,mph.

have to have some faith in work and think it's gauge. started to take apart but called it a night, will check tomrrw.

any way to check gauge itself??
