In final stages of clean-up waiting on parts to re-build 85' 60HP Johnson.

Top rod bearing and corresponding crank journal was a little blue (hot)...

Manual says to use crocus cloth on an arbor in a drill to clean up rod.

Any recommendations on cleaning crank / rod?

New bearings are part of the re-build.

Attached are pics of the rod journal.

Any advice?

Thanks.

What I do is use 220 wet / dry paper and put a crosshatch pattern back on the rods.----Do one half at a time.------Use thin strip of 220 emery ( 1/4" wide ) and polish crank journal to put a cross pattern on it too.----Should just take minutes and hardly removes any material.

Thank you, this worked out well and cleaned up nicely with very little material coming off like you said.
