As I've been told that pistons for a 1995 90HP Evinrude weigh the same can I assume the rods do too? Long story short, can you replace just one?

Re: Connecting rod weight

I had a circlip come loose on piston #4. Replaced block, #4 piston, wrist pin bearing and rod bearing. When I went to bolt#4 rod to crank I couldn't get it to fit without catching my fingernail on one half of one side of the rod cap. That rod was discolored as it must have gotten very hot. Not feeling good about the fit I bought a used rod and everything seems to fit better but I'm concerned about the new rod not weighing the same as the old causing an imbalance issue. I didn't weigh them when I had the chance.

You can not just tighten the bolts on those.------The rod caps must be carefully adjusted.-----Factory makes a special tool but it is $$$$$--------With careful work and patience it can be done without the tool.

Yup, did like you said. Slowly and carefully. The other three took awhile but I got them so there was no "catch" between the two halves. #4 just seemed to have a little twist to either the top or bottom. One side fit perfectly but the other side seemed to have an issue where the right half fit and the left side half just wouldn't mate. the rod did get very hot and I was afraid it twisted somehow so I replaced it.

Don't be concerned about the weight.

Re: Connecting rod weight

In the parts catalogue the rods are not listed as a matched set of 4

Ok, maybe today we will install the powerhead back onto the boat and turn the key to ON!
