connecting rods and bearing

Hello , I just purchase a 1955 evinrude 7.5 hp and the motor was locked up, So I took it apart and found that the connecting rods are trashed and also the main bearing. Could anyone out there tell me where I could locate these parts ? Are these parts still around or should I use it for a planter ?

Use it for a planter, steppinstone... Fear not, they sold about a bazillion of those----look for a cheap used powerhead on ebay or place a free ad on aomci.org I'd bet they'd take care of you if you're fixing it for yourself. You might even consider becoming a member since after you get it running you'll like it so much you'll probably want another one. Probably a 10hp next if you get bit by the same bug I did.

Try Bill Kelly, Mastertec, problem is getting him to answer the phone. There are also other sources of parts for old motors. One place to look is Ebay, another is Antique Outboard Motor Club. Don't use as planter, people rebuild
motors older than that every day.

Just a quick note:
I wrote my response to use it as a planter not because it couldn't be rebuilt, but because it would be far more expensive to fix that rusty powerhead than to get a good used one. If that powerhead has some kind of intrinsic value to it like sentimentality, by all means rebuild it. It's absolutely true that it can be done. Why anyone would want to, as easy as it is to get a good used one I can't figure out. I know folks rebuild the really old ones because they're actually rarer than most. But a '55 7.5hp was probably the top selling outboard of all time, and it's just too easy to get a good used one.
Then again, I'm no expert powerhead rebuilder and maybe you can find really cheap bearings and new crankshafts and pistons. I just haven't found them yet, myself.

Besides, the bearings are not replaceable.

Finding a crankshaft, rod's, and crankcase on that engine would be doubtful. Sell the gearcase, and fuel tank, and look for something else.

Thanks guy's The cylinder head has just a little surface rust which I think I my be able to hone out, IT seems like whom ever owned this prior to me heated it up ,I have not checked the impeller yet. so I think I am going on the hunt for new piston's and crank shaft .

hi guy's would the number stamped on the piston and connecting rod be the part number? or is the part number different ?

I want to thank you sandhammaren and wbeaton I was able to find the parts hopefully I will have it back together this weekend or sooner and I will post back
