Connecting Snap Plugs

What is the correct way to connect snap plugs?

I'm replacing a tilt-trim switch that has one male snap plug end and two female snap plug ends covered in heat shrink tubing.

Are the connections meant to be crimped and/or shrunk or neither?

They just push together.....

If you are talking about "spade connectors" they simply snap together like any other connector. No crimping, no heat shrink required. If you are talking about how to attach them to a wire, then that's a different story. They are normally crimped.
