Just joined this forum...great info on here. My first post is about this 2000 200 HPDI I'm considering purchasing. Owner says it has est 400 hours. I've searched and read all the HPDI history on here. Lots of scary HPDI posts. I'm hoping RODBOLT or one of the other impressive tech-types on here can respond to my overall question, which is...I know all engines have their percentage of problems. Are the small block HPDI's problems in line with normal engine line failure/problem rates, or higher? Now to the specific engine I'm looking at. I just called the Yamaha customer service line with the engine serial #. The guy told me that the ECU on this engine was replaced under warranty in '02. He also said there is a "fuel sender upgrade" which has not been performed. Should I be greatly concerned about these issues? I enjoy maintaining equipment and am confident that if I buy a decent used motor I'll be able to keep it going (at a considerable savings over buying new). My current carbed Yam 200 has about 1500 and still runs great. I'd like to get something newer and more economical to run, but should I avoid getting into a high-tech DFI motor without being absolutely sure of it's history? Thanks, John

take it to a reputable yamaha dealer and have the laptop connected.
then look for all the maint records, remember its 10 hour,50 hours or monthly,100 hour or every six months and 200 hour or every year.
you want to look at O2 sensor and VST maint as well as cooling system maint.
the pressure control valve gets neglected a lot.
while your at the dealership browse through the 05 marine technical guide paying attention to the HPDI service schedule.

Rodbolt,
Thanks, I'll do that. Another question...When the Yamaha tech replaced the ECU on this motor back in '02 should he have saved the date from the old ECU (assuming it wasn't comletely fried) or possibly transferred it over to the new ECU? I figure the data prior to the replacement is probably lost, but am hoping there's some way I can get a read out of the total hours on the motor. Thanks again for your help, John
