i have been looking for gently used 17 - 21 ft bowriders in the 12k range. After reading some reviews about the 09 Bayliners i am considering just buying a new one. Heck i was considering a 2000 Regal for 13k. I can get a new new 175 for a few bucks more and its brand new!

Re: considering abandoning my used boat search and buying new

We've noticed in Canada that the used boat market is very close in price to the new boat market. Being that people bought boats (and still have payments on them) at a much higher price, and the new boats (thanks G.W. Bush for the WEAK US dollar) are selling at much lower prices now. Bad for used boat sellers, but very good for new boat buyers.

My wife and I are looking at mini-cruiser (24' range) right now and have decided against used excluding an extraordinary deal. Although there is a very nice used Cobalt for sale here for about $20K...ah...choices.

I know what you mean about the weak used market - We have a baby coming in March and thought briefly about selling the boat 'till we saw current prices. I mean I have a '96 Mariah(before the buyout) 18', 4.3 4bbl, with less than 100hrs(that is total use - we put most of that time on it in the last three years) I refuse to just let it go for 5k. I'll just hold on to it.

Don't blame you...
NADA lists your value from $6470 to $7070 w/o taking into account any options.

First off, your range of "17' - 21' " may be why used seems so close in price to used. You should probably determine what you want before shopping much more. It's tough, but it sounds like you've been looking for a while so maybe you have a better idea now.

A new Bayliner 175 with the 3.0L carbed engine is the very low end of what you're looking for. Small, low power (not saying it's not enough, just one reason for the low cost). If you compare it to anything but used lowest end then that's not a fair comparison. Step up to a 19-20' powered by a 4.3L Fuel injected engine and you have a much more costly new boat!

I don't agree that used sale prices aren't down along with new. ASKING prices may still be higher on used, but they aren't selling for that and some have to sell which means accepting a lower offer. It does take more patience to find a good baot and a good deal used, that's for sure.
