Considering buying a 1954 johnson 10hp

Found a guy selling one for $250. He says it's in excellent shape and comes with a spare motor and props. I would like to put it on my 12ft tinny, will it get the boat on plane?

Is $250 a good price?

every ob for sale is either in excellent shape or " worked great the last time it was used". take a compression tester and check that first, also check the condition of the gear oil. ask to see it run in a barrel . have a look at cyl head for signs of any overheats ( paint discolored) $250 isnt a bad price with a spare parts motor in the deal. if the motor is in reasonable working condition it will get your 12 footer on plane no problem.
