I recently had a situation with my motor and need some guidance. When I was out last time. My starter battery went dead and I started it off the trolling battery. I stupidly didnt rehook the terminals to a battery and about a minute into the run I heard a faint(no battery) overheat alarm. I shut down and the terminals were touching. Now the alarm will not turn off even though it has cooled completely. I am pretty sure it never overheated. The taletell was pumping cold water. I tried unhooking the sensors at the head but it still sounds. Is there any tests I can perform to find the fault? The book I have Doesnt show much on testing the sensors or alarm.
Thanks,
Randy

Your motor should also have a constant alarm when there is a fuel obstruction. To discount that possibility as the cause, you can disconnect the harness running from the fuel pump.

I ran it for about 5 minutes to the dock after it cooled , it did not seem to be sluggish or missing, or overheating. I will try that though.
Thank you

If you ran the engine without the battery cables connected you essentially have an unregulated electrical system. System voltage went very high and may have taken out the warning horn system (created and internal short). Don't be surprised if it also took out the voltage regulator. Have you figured out why the starting battery went dead?

The regulator-rectifier was bad. I have the new one but havent installed it.
