Constant stator burn out

The stator on my 1996 Johnson Ocean runner has gone out 3 times. The last one I replaced was in march of 2007 and it is out again. Each time I replace the stator, I replace the voltage regulator as well. I use lock nuts on the battery posts. Could the Power Pack be causing this problem?

Re: Constant stator burn out

what model engine?

Exactly how does it "go out"? burned, melted, open circuit, etc.?
What part of the stator fails and is it always the same part?

Are you using OEM stators or off-brand?

Do you have a Chinese made or no-name battery switch, or a name brand with clean and tight connections?

Never, never, NEVER, change battery selector positions while the motor is running.

Do NOT use gel cell or optima batteries.

Add up the electrical accessories, do NOT exceed the charging capacity of the stator/rectifier assy.

Never NEVER, EVER, test ignition systems/coils by just 'pulling a plug wire' while running, always use a grounded spark tester.

Check flywheel magnets for looseness/striking the stator.

Re: Constant stator burn out

The model is: J225TXEDE225
The first stator I replaced it with was a Johnson Part. The second and thrid are CDI. I do not have a selector. I am wired straight to the battery which is a Die Hard marine starting battery.
The stator coils, usually two or three of them are actually burned, melted and black. This last time, it melted the harnis around the coil where the wires are connected.
I run a GPS, Depth Finder, VHF radio and running lights. The bilge pump runs some of the time and occasionally the wash down pump.
