Ok so the wife wants a Tiki Hut.....would like to build a 10 X 10 with gable 4 hip roof on cement slab
This would be a movable structure on cement slab....there would not be full walls....only about 3' high
There would be 6X6 posts on the corners and prob 2X8 between the post to carry roof load...
Does this sound feasable or am I better off cutting holes in the slab and putting the posts in the ground?

Yes this is feasable as long as your roof has gussets supporting the posts. We have ours mounted to a steel dock frame in the shallow corner of the Harbor. Just make sure design includes some tipe of anchoring device to keep high winds from carying it away.

6x6 post bases attached to the slab with tapcon screws will hold it down ;)

Plus it will keep the wood off the concrete and away from moisture.

Be sure to use cracked concrete approved anchors per the 2009 IBC with an ICC Evaluation and the proper embedment and minimum edge distance.

Sorry, mistook this for a work email....

It won't be "movable" if it is build the way you intend. To heavy to move. I am assuming you mean it will be a temperary structure for code purposes in your area? Also when you say tiki hut, what exactly are your purposes for this build? Tiki huts traditionaly use palm or some other natural material for the roof.

yes....temporary structure is what I meant......yes i will be using thatch for the roof.....this will be a sort of picnic shelter/bar
It will have no walls only posts and will be 10X10 to 10X12 and have a 6' to 8' bar with small fridge and sink in it

In addition to the post base shown in post#3, make sure you install clips (or galvanized bolts) where the headers attach to the posts, where the roof joists attach to the headers and where the rafters meet at the apex. There must be a "continuous load path" from the concrete to the apex. Simpson Strong-Tie is a popular source of all items you'll need and are carried by lots of hardware carriers. You should also use treated yellow pine!

yes everything will be treated and already planned on bolting the headers to the posts....the rafters will be 12' shed rafters with 8/12 pitch

Tubin - I just finished a screened room project...20'x30'. The post headers are 2"x6" spanning 10' between posts to support 2"x4" rafters @ 19.2", also spanning 10" to the center header then on another 10' to the ledger on the eave. It's supporting a standing seam shed roof.

IMHO, 2"x12" for your headers is a bit much and will also add a bunch of weight. I'll post pics if you ask.

You must have misread I planned on using 6"x6" posts and 2"x8" headers and the shed rafters are prebuilt rafters with a 12' span and 8/12 pitch
