I have a 1991 Bayliner Capri Mercury 4.3 V6 Alpha One Runabout ,,I was lubbing the propeller and I noticed the continuity washer was broken..there is no damage visible to the hub or prop.. my Q is do i need a Continuity Washer??? or just grease? instead? I heard many people said that you need one others said you don't.
Also know as the lock washer. (learn something new every day). When replacing Flo-Torq II plastic hub props, aft castle thrust washer 12-31211A2 and lock(star) washer 13-42351-1 are required in addition to the other hardware supplied with original propeller.
My take is that it's there for a reason. Unless changing to a new type of prop with a different setup, if the manufacturer thinks it should be there, then that's what I'd go with.
