I have a 150hp force that refuses to run correctly in the mid range rpm band. After several months on the message board researching and trying different fixes it is still the same. It will idle fine most of the time and runs really well at WOT. I have replaced sparkplugs, checked timing, rung out ALL ignition wires, rebuilt all three carbs, checked compression countless times (always 120 all cyl), decarbed with seafoam, linked and synced carbs several times. Today after making just some minor ajustments. I started it up hooked to the hose. In nuetral as I started to advance the thottle it would hesitate and almost cough. At the same time it coughed there was a quick puff of smoke that came from the lower fuel pump area. I say smoke because my first thought was the pump was leaking but I could not find any liquid when I shut it off and inspected it. While on the water it will run at a trolling or no wake speed just fine. However, a few wekks ago i tried to ski behind it and it will not pull me out on a slalom ski (before you ask I only weigh 150). You cannot maintain a speed between 15-25 mph. Any help would be appreciated.
