My control box for this motor was already acting finicky with the idler arm always seeming to stick and move upward with the throttle as accelerating, then having to be manually pushed down to keep the engine from revving. Then it was always idling too fast to shift into gear. The lastest is that the ignition switch no longer shuts the engine off. The control box is an OCM mounted to the side of gunwale next to the seat. What are my options for replacing this control box for this older engine?

Another control box for a Johnson Hydro Electric Shift.
Well you can replace it with an Evinrude Push Button Control box for the Hydro-Electric Shift models.
Beware, in either Scenario, make sure it is not a Control Box for the Electric Shift motors, as they are not interchangeable

Model # needed.----There was no 70 HP marketed in 1971.-----You should open the box up and have a look for broken parts , loose wires.

I missed that detail. Damn. Oh well, at least it will be difficult to find a control box for a 1971 70hp
