Control Box cable with lot of slack

How much slack should you see in the control box cable from a 1995 side mount control box? If I have some one hold the main control box lever and I push/pull on the cable where it connects to the throttle I see about an inch of travel without moving the handle. If I go to the other end and hold the motor end of the cable it takes almost 50%of the handle travel before the cable wants to move on the motor side. Is the cable housing just worn enough on the inside to make it this sloppy or is this normal. The warm up lever doesn't even hardly change the RPM's either. I've seen the post about pinning the warm up lever cam and I've done that. Could there be something worn inside the control box?

Make sure the cable is supported along its entire length. You can get a lot of lost motion form a cable that is moving around. If it is supported well, you likely have a worn control box or the cable housing is not properly attached within the control box.

Another thing that will add to lost motion is an excessive number of turns or bends in the cable.

I'd take the box apart first and see if anything is worn or loose. If that's okay then replace the cables.

One thing that can ruin a control box in short order is using it with cables that are binding. Puts a lot of strain on a control box and parts will wear.

Is there a component inside the box that fails more than others? A cable is only 30 some bucks, seems like a no brainer for that.

Depends on what the box is made of. Some have many plastic parts so depends on the manufacturer.
