Control box (commander 2000) worn gears...I think

Hey all,
I've replaced the control cables and did a bunch of work over the winter. I noticed this afternoon that I'm not getting full WOT RPMs. After adjusting the cables and doing a Link & Sync, when I advance the throttle to WOT, the carbs aren't opening all the way (about 1/2 I'd say, this is a pic of #2 and #3 on a 96 Mariner 115 - OG348734)...

Also, the full throttle stop (1) isn't close to the exhaust waterjacket cover (2) while the throttle is at WOT either...

After searching these forums, I think I determined that the control box is not advancing the throttle all the way due to a worn gear (duh!). Using the diagram below...

What usually wears out, the cam (30) or the guide slot in the cast iron drive gear (28)? I'm thinking I can just replace these parts for several bucks rather than spending the full amount on the whole control box. I'm losing about half the travel of the throttle when engaging the throttle after putting the engine in gear due to play in the system. So this swing distance is taken away from advancing the throttle cam on the engine, thus not opening the carbs fully at WOT. Any thoughts if this can be replaced, I got the last image from mercruiserparts.com and it says the part is no longer available. Is it elsewhere? Thanks for any thoughts.

Disregard, after a few beers worth of thinking material, I re-opened the control box and discovered that I hadn't re-inserted the brass post into the roller cam, thus giving me way too much play in the throttle swing. Sorry for the waste of your reading time...hope you enjoyed the pics.
