I have a 1978 Johnson 150 I am thinking of buying a 1981 Evinrude 175. Will my 1978 control box be usable on this engine?

Thanks

Bummer, Is there somewhere I can find the appropriate control box for a 1981 Evinrude 175? It needs to be a side mount.

Yes, it will work fine.
It should attach like it was made for it!
No problems!

I went from a '75 135hp Evinrude to a '83 175hp Evinrude, and zero issues using old control box. Big red wire harness is the same plug. Throttle and shift cables are the same.

You might need to use an external trim switch. My old 135 had external console mounted trim switch instead of control handle mounted switch, and it was a 2 minute job connecting newer 175 to old trim switch.

Well now, that changes everything. Two opposing opinions. What to do? If I can just plug this motor in that makes the idea more appealing for sure.

You'll have to push about 17% harder on the throttle because of the added horsepower. If you use a box from a 200 it'll be about 12% easier. If you use a box from a 300.........

Never mind, that's not gonna get past anybody. Any box with a red plug on the harness will work on a motor with a red plug.
