I have a question... I am the current owner of an 1150 sn 4125571, i believe it is a 1975 model. I am looking to replace it with a 1983 Mercury 50 hp. I know the power hookup is different, and think i've seen an adapter somewhere, but other than that is there anyway my control box from the 115 will work with the 50?

Thanks for the info in advance.

What control box do you have?

It's a black MerControl control box... key on the back, choke button on top. Black with blue lettering.

You can look at the two wiring schematics and do some cut and splice to make them work. I had to do this when changing from a Mariner to a Merc two different plugs on the motor side.

A couple of things to remember when doing this

Flux and solder all connections
Use weather resistant heat shrink ( available at a commercial electrical supply)

So with the exception of the electrical, the shift and throttle connections will work?

I honestly do not have a clue, I know what the 115 looks like but not the 50.
