Control Box - tilt/trim switch replacement

I've got a 1990-ish white OMC (Johnson/Evenrude) control box for my 1993 60hp Evinrude.
Trying to replace the tilt/trim switch in the lever/handle but cannot figure out how to disassemble the lever. I've had the box apart but cannot remove the lever.
If anyone has instructions or diagram I would appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks,
John

No need to take the control box apart. Simply remove the allen screw from the back of the box that retains the throttle lever (Be sure to have that lever in neutral).

Now, insert a long 1/4x20 threaded bolt into where that allen screw was, then hit the head of that bolt with a hammer (or something). The handle is now loose... remove that bolt and continue on.

Be sure to have that handle in the neutral position when you reinstall it.

Thank you Joe, that sounds easy, I've had that allen screw out, just didn't think to use a hammer.... that's usually my go-to tool.
I think these switches are hard to find any chance you know a good source or a repair to them? I'll take it apart tomorrow and hope I can just repair but might need replacement.
Thanks again!

Best to replace the switch. They're readily available at dealerships.

Re: Control Box - tilt/trim switch replacement

Removed switch and found it to be good, the switch was not being held firmly by the handle assembly. The handle had IMHO a bad design to hold the switch in place, the one small screw with not enough housing to support it had broken the plastic boss. I've epoxied some support for repair, hopefully it will hold. I was tempted to epoxy the switch into the housing.

One question, is there a rubber boot that would go around the switch, looking at the assembly, seems like it's missing a small boot/seal?

No boot that I'm aware of.
