I have 1962 evinrude 40hp controls and want your tricks and tips on the best way to force a cleaner or lubricate through the cables will still on the boat.

They just drag harder than I'd like

Thanks

Re: Control Cable Cleaning

I believe you can teke the cable ends off on those, and pull the stainless steel core out. You may clean it with a solvent and re oil it.

I think there was a small allen wrench that fit them. Loosen both sides, pull out the wire and clean it, and reinstall. Now with both sides of the clamp loose, Tighten one side with the allen wrench. When it gets snug, tighten it a bit more to crimp it. Now tighten the other side.

And if the cables are new..theres no means of cleaning them, you can try to shoot some lube/cleaner between the cable & outer casing but generally they need to be replaced
