How much play should there be in the control cable - if any, before it starts moving the shift lever linkage?
I have a 1996 Evinrude Intruder 150 V6 and am struggling with getting reverse. No amount of fiddling will get it right. I can manually get it by pulling the linkage up with my fingers but cant get reverse using the shifter. I have set the shift linkage height correctly and replaced the cam in the control box - this is the only other thing that I can think of. When using the shifter, the brass shaft at the end of the control cable slides slightly in its plastic sleeve before moving the shift lever linkage. It almost looks as though it works like a damper. Is this correct?
Any help would be appreciated.
