The control cables on a 1992, 22', Crest II are badly frayed on the ends. Is there a way to cut off the bad cable, and splice in good cable? Or do I need to buy new cable, and replace?
Control cables aren't expensive and are beyond fixing reliably. If you were able to fix the ends, chances are the part you can't see are also shot. So any fix would be temporary at best and will fail when you really need to control the motor speed or direction.
