controls a little stiff??

the controls on my johnson 70 hp are "stiff". the throttle and gear cables are really long, they double back toward the control box before going to the motor. could this bend be causing this problem? or is there something wrong inside to box? its REALLY hard to git into reverse.

would new cables solve this or is this (hopefully) something minor?

as few bends as possible, yes, the loop could cause your problem.
