Controls year specific?

I need a new control box for my 2003 150XL SWB. Are controls year specific? I've found the same one I had but they are expensive. Trying to see if a newer set would work and actually cost less.

Perhaps you can repair the old box. Parts should be available for it. What exactly went bad on it?

Lol, pieces fell out. Every since I bought the boat it has been very hard to shift. I replaced the cables and lubricated the control arms in the motor. I greased every possible surface in the control box and only had a marginal improvement.

Do you know where the parts fell out from? Are they broken? Hard to shift... How did it operate if the cables were unhooked, at the engine, and also the control box? Too much preload on the throttle cable(happens when someone increases idle speed with out adjusting the throttle cable length) can make for hard shifting into neutral

One part was a linkage plate but nothing was physically broken. It was hard to shift/operate. Even unhooked from either end it was pretty stiff. When I installed the new cables I followed Tele-flex's instruction on adjustment etc.
