I am reinstalling parts on my motor and the manual says torque to 100 lb. in.
So I just divided 100 by 12, the closest I can come with my wrench is just under 10 ft. lbs.

Bill it is as simple as divide by 12. So you had it correct. However, you can buy a small inch/lb torque wrench really cheap and then you don't have to do conversions. Usually inch/lb wrenches use 1/4" drive attachments because of the smaller torques needed. So either keep dividing by 12, or buy a inch/lb torque wrench... JMHO!
