Conversion of Hydro-electric Gearcase

Just a thought here. I was told that this conversion could done with the following swaps:

- crankcase replacement from a non-hydro motor

- hollow pivot for shift rod (perhaps this could be drilled into existing pivot arm)?

- gearcase

Is this correct? THe mechanic who told me this didnt necessarily say that it was doable, but to me this seems doable (albeit somewhat foolish). Can this be done reasonable?

Thanks

While such a conversion might be possible, the cost would probably be more than purchasing a used outboard that had the regular shift.

You don't say what engine you have, but older outboards can be pretty much of a bargain out there.

I'm just sayin...

It would be much easier, and cheaper to just buy the motor you want. You would literally have to change the entire engine over, including the control box.

I have a 68 55HP which I just invested in a powerhead rebuild. I thinking ahead to the day when the solenoids need servicing.

There are any number of thing's I can think of that are going long before those solinoid's.
