Hey everyone, I'm a longtime reader, first time poster on here. I have a early 70's Mirrocraft that I am converting to a center console. My outboard is a 1973 50hp Johnson with electric start that runs well so I'm planning on keeping it. I have already taken care of steering, but I'm having trouble with the controls. I would like to convert it to binnacle controls so it looks nicer, but cannot find binnacle controls for a Johnson 50esl73r. It is my understanding that these outboards went fairly unchanged for an extended period of time. Is there a later set of controls that would work, or a universal option? The key is broken off in the Ignition so I already am looking at $100 regardless for a new ignition, so if I can switch to binnacle controls for a little more I would rather do that than jerry rigging the side controls to a center console.
I apologize if this is a stupid question, I haven't fund much info on it and this is my first non-tiller boat.

Some will argue.-----I would look for a newer control box then what came with the 73 models.----Say something from an 85 model.-----You could take the handle off and put it on the other side.----That way the box could be mounted to the side of the console.----And there are other options as well.
