Convert a high profile upper gearcase to be used with an low profile outdrive?

I have a 1986 Ebbtide Montego with the 302STHRCOM engine and my upper gearcase had a bearing explode throwing metal throughout. Luckily, I found an upper gearcase in good condition for cheap and decided to buy it. However, after getting a closer look at the gearcase, I realized it is the high profile model that extends out of the bottom of the gearcase with a longer shaft. Is there any way at all for me to use this upper gearcase or do I absolutely need to just resell it and cut my losses?
