Convert old 2 lever controller to one lever

My 66 Starcraft Holiday has a 2 lever throtle/shift controller. Has anyone ever upgraded to a single? I have a parts boat with a single. How hard is it? Nuetral ****ches?

Grzzzz, is it a Mercruiser? I/O? if so it should be one lever and another lever for gassing to start. Post a couple pics for us.

I went the other way. Had a single lever and switched to a double. Mine switch wasn't tough at all, but mine was a 1973. As NB said, pics would help.
