Convert PWC trailer to small boat trailer?

I was just talking with a friend about finding a trailer for the 14' garvey I'm building and he has a practically brand new galvanized trailer that he used to pull his waverunner until he had to sell it a few years ago. The trailer has been sitting in his dad's barn ever since. I'm going to look at it sometime next week, but he told me I could have it for $50. Has anyone ever converted a PWC trailer to a small boat trailer? My biggest concern is the width. This boat has a 5' 2" beam. Is there some kind of rule of thumb about axle width and width of the boat being towed?

Re: Convert PWC trailer to small boat trailer?

Trailer capacity and I would think one would not want the boat to be wider than the fenders. A 5'2" beam is about a 48" bottom.

When I bought my current tin boat it was on a trailer that was much too small for it (the beam was a bit over the OS of the fenders). I pulled it 150 miles home with no problems so how you plan to use the trailer has to figure into the equation.

I don't really see any way for you to lose on the deal at $50.
