I took the top out of the packaging the previous owner had it in, and I'm not quite sure how it would secure to the metal frame? is there something I'm missing or is the frame just used for support??

For the frame the main hoop mounts onto 2 slides on the rails of the boat, and then there is another loop that is hinged to the main loop

there were two white straps included in the bag, is that for use on the frame?

Re: Convertable top

Usually there are pockets sewn into the top that the frame passes through, front and rear. More if there are more than two bows in the top. Or sometimes, if it has 3 bows, the center is held in place by straps tying it to another bow. Some are called a Navy top and snap onto the windshield frame in the front instead of being supported by a bow.

What does the frame look like?

Re: Convertable top

Ok, you have one main bow, with a second hinged to the main.

If the second hinged bow is only half or less the height of the main bow, then it sounds like a navy top. The white straps either connect the second bow to the first evenly spaced at the top (keeps the hinged bow from falling forward), or the straps may be to pull the main bow back and tighten it. There must be snaps on the top and frame for a navy top to work. Kind of like a convertible top on a car.

If the two bows are roughly the same length, and hinged near the base of the main bow, then it can be a traditional bimini top. Both bows will go in sleeves in the top, and two straps are needed front and rear.

That is what I have with all the snaps across the windsheild, there is a pocket on the rear of the main section of the top, with slots , that must be for straps to connect to the forward bow, there is a back section that must be to tighten it all up, sweet thanks:cool:
