Hi folks,

I have just installed the Holley Avenger EFI system to my 5.7 vortec.... I need a thermostat which runs at least 10 degree f higher as it only hits 160 and it needs at least 165 to go into closed loop mode.

Can I run a regular chevy thermostat in the penta housing?

Best wishes,

Stan

Of course..remeber a engine bay in a boat neeeds to run cooler and cleaner..(fumes) than a car. Nice little conversion...what type of OS sensors are you running.

It's running map, CTS, ATS, Lambda, fuel pressure sensor. Cool and clean don't go together in gas engines, slightly warmer allows the fuel to vaporise and burn cleaner reducing the emissions. I hope 5-10c isn't the end of the world :-S

The only way to run a higher temp thermostat is to have a closed cooling system on the engine. Putting a higher stat in an engine with raw water cooling is pretty much a death sentence for the block. At temps above 147 degrees F. the minerals desolved in the water undesolve and proceed to build up in the water passages. After awhile the passages will look like somebody filled them with cement.

It is running with a preset map at present and will not enter learning mode until it heats to over 160f... it goes to 162 every now and again but i need 170 all the time.

This is a marine EFI and it requires this high of a thermostat? I am surprised.

A regular chevrolet thermostat is completely different. You need the smaller sized thermostat that fits up into the housing.

I believe the stock thermostat in the EFI motors is a 180. Don't have any manuals on hand to check though.

Not on a raw water cooled engine.
